What does a sound engineer really do? A sound engineer also known as an audio engineer is a trained professional who has to work around and with the mechanics of recording, mixing, and reproducing sound. A sound engineer is definitely not the same as a sound producer, or writer, as they have to deal specifically with the mechanical and technical aspects of sound and music and nothing else.

A sound engineer has to often assist musicians and record producers in such a way that their work gets the sound that they have been hoping to achieve. A sound engineer will be responsible towards piecing together different parts of a song, add some synthetic sounds to the existing track or even use auto-tune on a recording.

The good news is that sound engineers with their technical capabilities can remain in sound engineering or even pursue a dual career as an engineer as well as producer.
